Please stay off the pitch on Saturday! Both Doncaster Rovers and
fans' representatives have appealed to fans to keep off the pitch at the
end of the last ever League match on Saturday. If fans abide by this request,
not only will the players perform a lap of honour, but everyone will be
able to enjoy the post-match entertainment, culminating in a massive fireworks
display and the ceremonial turning off of the floodlights. We are leaving! Can anyone who has access to a photocopier make as many copies as they can of the "We Are Leaving" song so that as many fans as possible can join in with its singing after Saturday's emotional finale, led by international opera singer, Martin Toal? If you haven't got a copier, please at least print off a couple for yourself and perhaps someone else. If this is worth doing, it's worth doing well! The words were too late to go in the Forest special programme, but were in the Yeovil one. Unfortunately, not many people have got one of those, unless you got a free one from the Rovers' stand at the Open Day. (You can still get one from Belle Vue if you would like one, by the way, they won't be used for the rearranged game). To the tune of "Sailing" by Rod Stewart. GOODBYE BELLE VUE WE ARE LEAVING, WE
ARE LEAVING WE ARE MOVING, WE
ARE MOVING CAN YOU HEAR US, CAN
YOU HEAR US NOW WITH VOICES RAISED,
WE WILL SING YOUR PRAISE Keith Medcalf (alias Adwick-Rover) December 23, 2006 |
VSC Organise Stadium Q. & A. sessionThe Keepmoat Stadium: Fans’ questions answered. A Question and Answer session was held at the Rovers’ Return on 7 December, with upwards of 30 fans in attendance. The meeting was Chaired by Andy Liney, and questions posed both from the floor and submitted in advance were fielded by Ian Spowart, Chairman of the Stadium Management Company, Dave Hazard, Stadium Project Manager for DMBC, and Dave Morris, Chief Executive of Doncaster Rovers. The following is a summary of the answers given: Bus transport A park and ride will initially operate from the racecourse until the developments there are completed in 18 months to two years. It will be free to park and £1 each way to use the shuttle bus. Normal concessionary fares will apply to this service. Park and ride schemes will then operate from Green Lane (Scawthorpe) and Parrot’s Corner (Rossington Bridge). For at least the next twelve months, Belle Vue car park will remain open as a free car park. Users can walk from there, although consideration is being given to having the shuttle buses also pick up there. New services (72 and 75) will run from bay C4 at the Interchange to the Keepmoat Stadium on a regular basis every day, including match days. Bus frequency will increase dependent on anticipated attendance, starting at every 20 minutes, increasing to every 15 minutes above 5,000, and every ten minutes above 9,000. These services will run right through Stadium Way (the road from the Post Office sorting office on Potteric Carr Roar to Lakeside Boulevard), and there will be two stadium bus stops on Stadium Way. These two services will run on New Year’s Day (the day of Rovers’ first match at the new ground). Due to it being a bank holiday, the other normal bus services will not operate on this day. Bus frequency after a match will be examined in light of experience to ensure bus travellers can be cleared from the area efficiently. Fans will be encouraged
to remain in the stadium complex using its facilities, having post match
refreshments and looking at the many TV screens or enjoying specially
laid on entertainment, to spread the time over which fans exit the area. Car Parking The stadium car park has a capacity of 1,000 (with 60 disabled spaces), the maximum now allowed by Government legislation for green transport reasons (1 place per 15 seats). The normal entrance will be from Potteric Carr Road, and the exit will be on to Lakeside Boulevard, unless changed by the police for safety reasons. The yellow “stadium” signs indicate this route from all out of town areas, but this is for strangers such as away fans, and our fans will not be prevented from travelling via alternative routes such as exiting Bawtry Road at the Dome. A third road is available for ingress or egress, again as required by the police. Fans using the stadium car park will be encouraged (rather than forced) to carry three passengers in each car. This is a recommendation of the Green Transport Strategy for the development embodied in the planning permission. The three in a car policy will also apply to away fans, executive box holders, and Premier Club members, but not disabled fans who are registered in the Rovers’ system. Home and away fans will be alerted to the policy by information carried on match tickets. Fans in two-seat cars will not be refused entry. A car share scheme will be encouraged, with formal arrangements being made via a website to ease its implementation. The stadium car park charge will be £5 per car. Disabled fans registered with Rovers will be able to use the disabled spaces at no charge. Free parking will continue to be available in the Vue car park (currently used by Rovers’ fans on match days), from where a scenic footpath connects to the stadium via the mound area. Stadium car park season
tickets will be available as from the start of the next football season
(2007-8). Bars/Catering The third floor restaurant (East Stand) is mainly at the disposal of Premier Club members on match days, but four tables of ten persons each remain available for anyone to book seats together or individually. A second restaurant/lounge is being created by Rovers in vacant space on the second floor of the East Stand and will be available from 2007-8 season. Food will also be available in the Lakeside Suite (the supporters’ bar in the West Stand), and in all concourse areas. The catering contractor for the whole stadium is EMC, who will employ an on-site Chef, and who will provide a wide variety of quality food, including vegetarian. There are a total of 24 licensed premises in the stadium, 17 of which are open to the public attending matches. The bars have open licenses, meaning that the SMC can dictate opening hours of their choosing, subject to any occasional overriding safety issues. The supporters’ bar will have a capacity of 560, and is fitted out to a very high standard. Any requirement to have a membership would depend on demand, although there will always have to be some form of stewarding to control numbers. The supporters’ bar availability to the public on non-match days will be based on demand, and it will also be available (as the Lakeside Suite) for public hire functions. Match day opening
hours for the supporters’ bar before kick off will initially be
1.00 pm (day time matches) and 6.15 pm (night matches) and the bar will
remain open until 30 to 45 minutes after kick off. The bar will re-open
at the end of the match until normal closing time. However, these hours
will be extended or otherwise amended dependent on demand. All four concourses
will have drink, food, and betting kiosks. Stadium seating/ticketing The actual physical capacity of the stadium is 15,231. A minimum actual capacity of 90% of this has already been agreed with the Safety Committee, and it hoped this will be raised to 100% after the Open Day and Lakers’ match on 27 December have tested all safety procedures. Ticket prices will be determined by the Rovers, not the SMC Prices for the rest of this season will be £21 adult (£15 concessions and U11) in “A” blocks (in the centre of the East and West stands), £18 adult (£12 concessions, £5 U11) in “B” blocks (East, West, South, and North stands), and £15 adult (£8 concessions, £5 U11) in “C” blocks (all four corners). Away fans will pay the same prices (£18 and £15, plus concessions) in the North Stand, as home fans in the South Stand, as required by Football League rules as the facilities are identical. The away section is designed to allow alternative capacities for visiting fans, dependent on away demand and anticipated home sales, with actual capacity options being 1,345, 2,073, and 3,344. Visiting fans will have their own refreshment facilities regardless of which capacity they are allocated, and doors in the concourse will separate them from home fans. Under Football League and FA rules visiting fans are entitled to 10% of home capacity (League matches), 15% FA Cup (up to the Quarter Final) and 25% in the quarter final. Total capacity may be reduced if segregation by seat netting is required. Huddersfield will initially be given the 2,073 allocation, and get no more than that allocation unless Rovers don’t sell the remainder to home fans. 250 tickets for every event (including Rovers’ matches) are available for Council distribution free to schools, youth organisations, junior football teams, etc. Anyone interested in applying for these tickets should contact the SMC. The 250 tickets for the Huddersfield game have already been allocated to TraxFM as a promotion. None of the free tickets will ever go to Council, SMC, Rovers’, or contractors’ employees. Complimentary ticket distributed in small numbers by the Rovers will be on the basis of Rovers paying the appropriate ticket price percentage to the SMC. Complimentary ticket numbers are in any case strictly limited by Football League regulations. Match day stewards and gate staff (who will be SMC employees) will not have free seats as part of their conditions of service. Home fans sitting in different price category seats will be prevented where possible from occupying vacant higher priced seats by stewards, although there will be no fences separating these areas. Consideration will be given to fans wanting to exchange season tickets already purchased for alternative areas of the stadium, although no refund will be made if the area chosen is in a cheaper price category. Fans will be able to return season ticket vouchers and purchase alternative seats, (for example to buy two seats together when a friend or relative is accompanying them) by doing so at the ticket office. Huddersfield tickets will go on sale at Belle Vue from 11 December (9.00 am) and from the Keepmoat Stadium ticket office from 17 December (i.e. it will be open for ticket sales on the Open Day). Thereafter, both ticket offices will operate in tandem for a short overlapping period. Huddersfield tickets will not initially be available on-line, although this facility will be introduced later. Tickets for the Rovers away fixtures will also be sold by the SMC. However, the same rules for season ticket holders and all the other fans will apply as per the usual Rovers’ policy. SMC ticket office hours will be flexible to ensure it meets all demand. At busy times there will be six windows open. No charge will be
levied for reserve team fixtures at least for the remainder of this season. Smoking policy Smoking will not be allowed in any part of the stadium, which therefore includes all seating areas, concourses, restaurants, and bars. “Pass outs” to smoke outside the stadium will not be allowed. December

New stadium Question & Answer sessionRovers' fans have understandably
got a lot of questions about the new stadium, including about ticketing,
smoking, car parking, shuttle buses, bars, etc. SMC Chairman, Ian Spowart,
has kindly offered to field questions from fans at a special Question
and Answer session to be held in the Rovers Return next Thursday night
(7 December) at 7.30 pm. Everyone is welcome, and you can ask any questions
you like. However, if you have the time to let us know the questions in
advance, it will help Ian prepare, which will ensure he has the full facts
at his disposal if there are issues he needs to investigate. Please send
any questions to me at andy.liney@virgin.net. This is a fantastic gesture
by Ian, and a great opportunity to find out all the details you need to
know to make your move to the new stadium that much more enjoyable and
hassle free, so please do your best to attend. Coin TrailThe collection at the Brighton
match raised £564.03, comprising £323.08 in the Viking Supporters'
Bar and £240.95 in the ground. Some of the funds raised in the bar
came from selling commemorative brochures for the last ever match at the
Goldstone. Special mention must also go to Des Fairclough, who sits in
the Main Stand "B" Block, and who made a single donation of
£50 towards the ground collection. November 26, 2006 Coin TrailThe collection at the Orient game raised £234.45 in the Viking Bar and £159.03 in the ground for a total of £393.45. This takes the Coin Trail to £55,027.27. November 5, 2006 Would you like a Doncaster Rovers e-mail address?Have you got a boring

you are a Doncaster Rovers' fan? October

Coin TrailThe collection at the Chesterfield game raised £252.29 in the Viking Bar and £115.28 in the ground. Added to £20 donated during the week, and two donations at the match from raided piggy banks (totalling £22), the Coin Trail now stands at £54,633.79. October 23, 2006 Coin TrailThe collection at
the Oldham match raised £217.00 in the Viking Supporters' Bar and
£124.76 in the ground, giving a total of £341.76. October 8, 2006 Coin TrailThe collection at the Bradford City home game raised £243.90 in the Viking Supporters' Bar, and £116.77 in the ground, for a total of £360.67. The lower than average amount is not surprising given that this was the third home game in less than a week. The Coin Trail now stands at £53,882.46. September 27, 2006 |

the Annual General Meeting that was held on Saturday are now available

A summary of the Viking Supporters’ Co-operative AGMThe sixth annual meeting of the Viking Supporters’ Co-operative was held in front of a packed house in the Rovers Return at 11.00 am on Saturday (24 September). The official counter lost count after 320, although this magnificent turnout may have been more to do with the guests than the draw of the VSC business! As promised in advance, the business was disposed of in less than 15 minutes, to allow plenty of time to hear from the principal guests, new management team of Sean O’Driscoll and Richard O’Kelly, and Director of Football Mickey Walker. Also present was Chief executive Dave Morris, newly elected to the Rovers’ board. Sean and Richard had entered the room just as the meeting commenced, and were greeted with a massive ovation right until they reached their seats |
Although Honorary VSC President John Ryan had asked the meeting date to be re-arranged specifically so he could attend, he had been obliged at the last minute to send his apologies. Andy Liney explained that this was due to other urgent Rovers’ business (although not player related!) which was hoped to have an important outcome to the future of the club, and thus had to take priority, even though John had been anxious to come along and introduce the new management team, and explain his thinking behind the appointment. The formal business included the re-election of retiring directors Nicky Beech, Neil Tissington, and Ian Perkin, and the election of two new directors, Gareth Thomas and Roy Feris, who were welcomed to the board. Retiring director Graham Harris did not stand again due to pressure of other commitments, and was thanked for his service. Company Secretary Ken Fear went through the accounts for the year ending March 2006, the highlight of which was the purchase of a further £30,000 in shares in the club. These share purchases represented 97% of the total annual income, a figure far in excess of any other trust, meaning that only 3% of income was absorbed by costs, which included the website, the popular VSC forum, printing of membership cards and other stationery, membership of the Football Supporters Federation, advertising, and the P.O. address. The low expenditure reflects the fact that none of the directors claim any expenses, such as telephone calls or travel, again unique among trusts. The high percentage converted to share purchases was greeted with a round of applause. Andy Liney announced that a further cheque for £10,000 would be presented to John Ryan that afternoon by a junior member (later chosen to be Declan Wainer). This would take the VSC shareholding, held in trust on behalf of all members, to £95,800, and this also drew a round of applause. Andy Liney then asked Dave Morris, standing in for John Ryan, to present Sean and Richard with certificates as honorary members of the VSC, which Sean and Richard appeared to appreciate greatly. The formal business being completed, Dave Morris then introduced our new management team, and Sean and Richard then both addressed the meeting, followed by a question and answer session. Sean said that he was generally happy with the squad, although he felt it was a little inflexible, both in terms of the ability to play in different positions, and the fact, for example, that we had five forwards and only three centre backs. Indeed, this was already causing problems due to injuries, and had led to Theo Streete being brought in as cover at short notice. He revealed that Theo had originally just been training with the club for a week, but the sudden opportunity had arisen and he had been happy to accept a month’s loan to have the possible chance of first team action. Sean was asked if he had considered one of our own juniors for the role (presumably Rob Pacey), but he said it had just worked out that Theo had been in the right place at the right time. Sean said he would consider new signings in the January window, and he felt that John, being a businessman, would be prepared to evaluate this on a business basis. In turn, Sean would only bring in players, whatever their cost, if it represented genuine value for money. One position he was considering was a utility type player who could cover several positions, although he was, not unexpectedly, pressed on the possibility of signing James Hayter, who both he and Richard said they admired, and with whom Sean had worked for many years. However, and despite possible concerns at Bournemouth about such matters, Sean said he would always do any dealings the right way by approaching the club first. Sean said he admired John’s approach in a similar way, especially the fact that, in the case of James O’Connor, he had offered a reasonable and acceptable price straight away, so the deal was done in days rather than protracted over weeks of silly price negotiations as so often happens. He was also inevitably asked about Brian Stock, who had made an immediate impact. Seam said that he couldn’t comment too much on a Preston player, but he was certainly happy with Brian in the team, and would consider looking to retain him if the opportunity arose, and assuming Preston would release him if he continued to perform so well. Asked why he had come so far north to Doncaster, Sean told us that he had been head hunted by Rovers, rather than applying for the vacancy, so it was Rovers who came to him and Richard rather than the other way round. He had been offered other jobs over the summer, including Championship clubs, but felt that the Rovers job was right for him, and believed that sometimes you have to go with such instincts. He had been sold the dream by John Ryan, but felt that, in a genuine football town like Doncaster, and with the financial backing available, that dream could be turned into reality in due course. He confirmed that the new stadium was a significant factor in his decision, and both he and Richard said they were very excited to be moving in. The new stadium had lifted the team and the club at Bournemouth, despite it only being three-sided, and he expected the same at the Lakeside only even more so. Sean said that, surprisingly, one of the happiest times of his life in football was when Bournemouth went into administration. Even though, sadly, some people lost their jobs, the upside was that the fans, players, and staff pulled together for perhaps the first time. He felt that the players and the fans WERE the club, and hoped for similar goal congruence at Rovers. Sean explained his philosophy with regard to varying structures around fixed tactics. Formations such as 4:4:2, diamonds, or whatever, were not what was solely important, as long as the tactics were adhered to. He wanted players to be comfortable in different positions, and not rigidly fixed in their positional thinking. When one player moved another should be able and willing to fill that position. He clearly believed that James Coppinger was an excellent footballer who could play in several positions, whether that be his usual wing role, or “in the hole” behind the front two. He was the sort of intelligent player a team could be built around. Several fans said they had been impressed by what they had seen so far in the first three games, and were very confident that we had got the management team to take us forward to the Championship. Particularly stressed were the apparent improvement in team spirit, the flexibility, passing, and movement, and the inventiveness of the formations in the three games under the new regime, culminating in a wonderful football display in the first half against Carling Cup victims Derby County. Asked the inevitable question about Sean Thornton, both Sean and Richard said they thought he was a decent lad who was now living his life properly, and who had an undoubted huge footballing talent, and they would continue to assess whether he was ready for the first team. No player would ever play unless Sean knew what he was going to be able to deliver. Richard was asked if he brought his scouting network with him, but greeted the question with a stonewall “no comment at this stage”. A vote of thanks was proposed from the floor for Mickey Walker with regard to him taking over the manager’s job at such short notice. Mickey said how much he’d enjoyed his stint in charge, and would have liked the job on a permanent basis had Sean and Richard not been available. However, he said his job was now to support the new team which he would do 100%. He was very appreciative of the massive backing he had received from fans, but asked them to now turn that support towards the new management team. Some discussion took place about financing of the Youth Team, and Mickey spoke of the way it was being developed. |

Mel Rothwell spoke emotionally from the floor about how well the club were now working with the local junior leagues, which he was also involved with, the first time this had ever happened in this way. He also stressed the importance of the VSC in fund raising for the Youth Team, which drew a round of applause. Andy Liney later pointed out that the Coin Trail, was specifically designed to raise funds for the Youth Team, which had been re-launched partly on the basis of a pledge from the VSC to raise £25,000 per annum. To date the total was £53,000, still some way short of reaching its target by having enough coins to cover the 2 km from Belle Vue to the new ground, by Christmas. He appealed for fans who believed in the Youth Team to donate to the Coin Trail when they saw Mel himself with his bucket coming round that afternoon, and when other opportunities arose. Sean and Richard had indicated that they had to leave by 12.15 to attend to footballing matters, so the meeting was drawn to a close at that time, with many fans remaining in the bar to watch the live draw for the Carling Cup Third Round. Sean and Richard left to a spontaneous standing ovation which continued until they were well across the car park. (Full minutes of the meeting will appear on this site in due course). Calling locally based England fansThere will be a meeting of YES (Yorkshire England Fans) in the Rovers Return TONIGHT at 7.30 pm. Apart from various interesting England items and guests, the main item on the agenda is a presentation by SportOps of their plans to run trips direct to England away games (including the Euro qualifiers and finals) direct from Doncaster (Robin Hood) Airport. If sufficient numbers show interest, this could become a regular thing, in addition to the flights to Macedonia and Croatia already scheduled. This means, the more England fans who attend tonight the more chance we have of getting this fantastic facility permanently. You don't have to be a YES member to attend, so why not come along and see what it's all about. (The bar will also be open from 7.30). Huddersfield Police apologise to "Donny Dog"!The following letter has been received by Andy Liney, our Supporter/Director, following the incident at the Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield, which led to Donny Dog being barred from the Huddersfield v Rovers match on 4th March. As you will read, the letter exonerates Andy, and should counteract any negative publicity that may have arisen at the time. The unprompted support, from both John Ryan, Rovers supporters and many other League One clubs, straight after the incident backs up the previous good behaviour of Donny Dog at all away games to date, with clubs such as Port Vale saying that he was the best mascot they have ever had at Vale Park. As you will note from the following text, Superintendent Hibbert has authorised the publishing of his letter of apology.
5 May 2006 Dear Mr. Liney, Firstly may I thank you and your wife for the hospitality you showed to Inspector Ogilvie and myself today. I do hope that by meeting face to face we are able to bring the unfortunate circumstances following your visit to Huddersfield to a close. On the day of the Huddersfield Town versus Doncaster Rovers fixture a decision was taken by the Police Commander to deny access to the ground of the away team mascot – on this occasion Donny Dog – a costume worn by yourself. The decision was based upon some earlier disorder in Huddersfield Town Centre and some confidential intelligence in respect of disorder. How ever this was communicated, it was not based upon any information in relation to yourself personally or Donny Dog. I am now aware that you attempted to reach an agreement whereby you removed part of the costume and would sit with the Doncaster Rovers Supporters. Though reasonable your offer was, it was not accepted by the on duty Police Commander, Chief Inspector Mohayuddin. Whilst not making any judgement on the decision(s) taken by Chief Inspector Mohayuddin, I feel that we could have taken time to speak to you directly and explain our policing rationale. This would have had dual consequences – firstly you would have had an accurate explanation and reassurance that the decision was based on matters other than your conduct, and secondly, you would have had the opportunity to make your own representations. Please accept my apology that this did not take place. In conclusion, a decision was taken to exclude the away team mascot – yourself – for sound operational reasons which were not in any way linked to your own behaviour on the day or at previous fixtures. In my eyes your character should be regarded as unblemished. I truly regret any embarrassment this incident has caused you. Additionally, an erroneous statement was made to the media regarding your conduct at a previous game. Again to reaffirm, our decisions have not made for anything other than real-time ‘on the day’ issues. Your previous conduct is not in question. I am happy for you to use the content of this letter as part of the reassurance of other cubs and organisations in respect of your duties as Doncaster Rovers club mascot. Yours sincerely, Nigel T.

Donny DogUnfortunately, Donny Dog will not be appearing at Rovers' last away League match at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday as they operate a policy of not allowing any visiting mascots. This will be the only time that Donny Dog has not appeared at our last away League game for five years. It looks like he'll have to make do with the away leg of the play-offs now! Coin trail The collection at
the reserves Pontin's League Play-off Final against Carlisle raised a total
of £291.59 (£69.89 in the Viking Bar, and £221.70 in the
ground). Thanks to everyone who contributed. May 5, 2006 |
Coin TrailToday's collection took us well through the £50,000 barrier. £263.85 was raised in the Viking Bar, and £304.31 in the ground, for a total of £568.16. Together with a further £63 from Donny Dog half marathon sponsorship, the total now stands at £50,527.18. April 30, 2006 Free entry to play off final! As suggested by fans, Rovers have agreed to make entry to Wednesday's play off final versus Carlisle free entry to all comers. This match (kick off 7.00 pm) will decide who gets promoted to the Pontins Premier League, as well as delivering further silverware. We need to respond to this gesture by turning out in big numbers, so why not come along and be part of the action? The Rovers Return will be open as for a normal league match. April 28, 2006 Donny Dog runs at Wetherby on SundayDonny Dog will be running at Wetherby Races on Sunday (30 April) in the second race at 2.35 pm, the Yorkshire YFC Mascot Steeplechase. Apart from the chance to win the “King of the Mascots” title in the largest gathering of mascots ever held in the north of England, all competitors are raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Coin TrailOnce again this week, two framed signed action shots of Rovers' playres (Jason Price and Sean Thornton) kindly donated by Derek Brook of the Frame Warehouse, Armthorpe, were raffled on the away coaches, raising £101. Together with £41 accumulated from Viking Rain Cape sales and £37.50 overdue from last season's "Sponsor a Goal", this makes a total of £179.50. The Coin Trail now stands at £49,896.02 April 24, 2006 Coin TrailThe £50,000 target draws ever closer! The collection at the Walsall game raised £181.50 in the Viking Bar and £135.81 in the ground, for a total of £317.31. The Coin Trail therefore now stands at £49,716.52. April 18, 2006 |
Coin TrailThere was no actual
collection at the Yeovil game on Saturday, but £85.30 was raised on
the weekend coaches by selling 50p raffle tickets for two framed action photos
of Rovers' players (Green and Coppinger). Thanks go to Derek Brook of the
Frame Warehouse, Armthorpe, for kindly donating the pictures. April 10, 2006 Donations for Mark HicklingMark's family have asked that all donations for Mark are given to Mark's preferred charity, the British Heart Foundation. Accordingly, the British Heart Foundation will be collecting at the Rotherham match instead of the Coin Trail Collection, so any fan who would like to donate in Mark's memory will have the opportunity. There will also be contact points for donations in Saturday's programme. March 30, 2006 Coin TrailThe collection at
the Colchester match raised £144.03 in the Viking Bar and £161.75
in the ground, down on normal but reflecting the lower attendance. March 22, 2006 |
Seating plan in new stadiumAfter the
plans were put on display by the club in the Viking Bar on Saturday, we have
received many requests from supporters with questions about the seating layout
at the new stadium. Please note
that the layout is supplied in PDF format and is approximately 2.44MB. For those who cannot download PDF files, please click in the logo below to go to a smaller picture of the plans March 20, 2006 |
Donny Dog's personal best!Congratulations
to Donny Dog, who achieved a personal best time of 2 hours 38 minutes in the
Doncaster Half Marathon on Sunday (19 March). What's more, running for the
third time in as many years, he didn't come last, indeed leading the stragglers
by more than 20 minutes! All this despite an enforced pit stop to apply plasters
and change shoes due to blisters.
VSC purchases yet another £10,000 worth of sharesThe Viking Supporters' Co-operative presented yet another £10,000 to John Ryan at half time during the Nottingham Forest game on Saturday. This money, raised by you, the fans, further increases our substantial shareholding in the club, and will help Rovers as we move onwards and upwards. The presentation was made by Stephen Rothwell and David Flaherty, who, along with Stephen's Dad Mel, have both helped with the Coin Trail collection for the Youth Team.
March 19, 2006 Coin Trail The collection
at the home game against Nottingham Forest raised £321.23 in the Viking
Bar and £183.70 in the ground for a total of £504.93. March 18, 2006 Coin Trail The collection
at the Port Vale match raised £205.26 in the Viking Bar and £226.80
in the ground. Together with £20 raised with a football card on the
bus to Huddersfield, and a one-off donation of £15.35 in small change,
this totals £467.41. March 13, 2006 |
Season ticket loan schemeAs most people will now be aware, the season ticket renewal forms and price lists have been sent to existing season ticket holders, with the prices being applicable until the 31st May. Tomorrow, representatives from the Danum Credit Union will be at the club in the Rovers Return from 1.00 pm for anyone who wants to make themselves a member of the union and qualify for a loan to purchase their season tickets. If you would like to become a member, please bring along two forms of identification, one of which is photo ID, i.e. your driving licence or passport and then something along the lines of a utility bill. Then join the DCU; it costs £2, £1 of this is your annual administration fee, and the other £1 goes into your savings account. The loans are low rate, paying back just £6.23 for every £100 borrowed. A person buying a ticket at £320, would pay back £339.94 with payments spread over a 12 month period. You do have to save each week, which is part of the "terms" of the loan, a payment of £8 a week would pay off the loan and leave you with savings, at the end of the period, of £76. DCU also aim to pay out a dividend, which last year was 3% so you will get an extra £2 if this dividend is paid. You won't get a better deal anywhere else, it spreads the cost of the season ticket and makes them more affordable than ever before. We encourage everyone who wants to take advantage of this scheme to become a member in their own right, rather than getting multiple season tickets per member. Obviously, in the case of families, you will be able to get a loan for both parent and child from the same membership.
Normally, members of the DCU are only allowed a first time loan for double the amount of savings they hold with DCU. This has been waived for the season ticket scheme. This means that the number of loans issued under the scheme is not infinite, and its likely that some people will be disappointed. THEY ARE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS WHILST FUNDS ALLOW. Priority is given to those who make themselves members at the earliest opportunity, so if you are interested, I urge you to come along tomorrow, with £2 and 2 forms of ID to secure your loan. Alternatively, you can sign up at any of the outreaches within the Doncaster area through the week, stating that you want to join the Rovers Season Ticket Scheme. March 10, 2006 |
Rovers Return open before Huddersfield match The Rovers
Return/Viking Supporters' Bar will be open from 11.00 am on Saturday 4 March
for the convenience of fans picking up their coaches at Belle Vue for the
Huddersfield match. All fans are welcome to use the facilities, whether requiring
a drink or not, which may be especially useful given the current cold weather.
Buses depart at 12.00 noon. February 28, 2006 |
Coin Trail The collection
at the Brentford match raised £204.66 in the Viking Bar and £160.06
in the ground, a total of £364.72. February 28, 2006 |

February 28, 2006 Donny Dog runs in Half Marathon!Once again,
for the third successive year, Donny Dog will be running in the Doncaster
Half Marathon on Sunday, 19 March. As usual, Donny Dog is raising money for
the Youth Team. February 26, 2006 Coin Trail We were grateful
for the extra collectors who volunteered to help at the Gillingham game, when
Rotherham fans were also collecting for the "Save the Millers" campaign. February 19, 2006 Coin Trail A return to Belle
Vue brought a good day on the pitch, and a healthy collection comprising £303.44
in the Viking Bar and £215.35 in the ground, totalling £518.79
for the day. February 12, 2006 |
Coin TrailThe collection at the Swindon match raised £54.20, taking the total to £43,926.35. Perhaps we should collect before matches, while we're still drawing, instead of at half time!! February 7, 2006 Coin Trail The collection
at half-time at the Blackpool game raised £72.80, a reasonable sum considering
the disappointing performance and half-time score, and shortness of available
time due to various distractions including issues relating to the displaying
of the giant flag. January 25, 2006 Coin trailThe collection at the Chesterfield game raised £244.84 in the Viking Bar and £274.08 in the ground, for a total of £518.92. This takes the running total to £43,809.35. There will be no collection at yet another local match on Saturday, as Scunthorpe have refused permission. January
15, 2006 Coin trail The collection at
the Port Vale match raised an excellent £118.54, and thanks go to all
who contributed. This includes £20 donated by Alan Smith, who had come
all the way from Sydney, Australia, to watch the Rovers, so an extra special
thanks to him! January

Rovers to launch season ticket loan schemeDoncaster Rovers are to team up with Danum Credit Union to offer Rovers’ fans a low cost loan scheme to obtain their season ticket for next term. Danum Credit Union are a locally based not-for-profit financial co-operative, regulated by the Financial Services Authority, who already provide “no strings” loans to over 2,000 Doncaster area residents. Fans will be able to join the Credit Union and then obtain season tickets from any time after these go on sale, with payment spread over the following twelve months, and interest payments substantially lower than any other available credit. This means that they will no longer have to find the full price of a season ticket “up front”, and yet the total cost will only be a few pounds more than the cash purchase price, still representing a substantial saving on pay-on-the-day prices. This opens the way for all Rovers’ fans to have the full benefits of being season.ticket holders, something that will be especially important to guarantee their regular seat in the new Lakeside stadium. For maximum convenience, fans will be able to make their payments at Belle Vue on match days, where two Danum Credit Union volunteer workers (who are both existing Rovers’ season ticket holders) will have a match-day base, and at other convenient locations where Danum Credit Union have offices. Rovers will also look to arrange for payments to be taken on certain days in the Rovers’ town centre shop during the closed season. Danum Credit Union General Manager Barbara Stevenson expressed her delight at the agreement, reached at a meeting with the club on 5 January, held in conjunction with representatives of Rovers’ fans. Barbara said “We are pleased and proud to be able to help Rovers’ fans obtain their season tickets with such low weekly payments so as many as possible can get the maximum benefit from their support of the club”. Rovers’ Chief Executive Dave Morris added “At the request of many of our fans, we have been looking for a suitable low-interest scheme which would allow our fans to obtain the benefits of a season ticket and still pay less than normal match-day prices for the privilege. Danum Credit Union is the ideal partner, as their non-profit making basis means the benefits are available to their members. It is great to team up with a trusted local organisation which will benefit both Rovers and our fans and allow us to further expand our season ticket base”. Details of the new scheme will be announced shortly, with a full public launch to be held in the Rovers Return at Belle Vue prior to a home match day, probably as early as next month. January

their buses for the Rotherham match. All fans of all ages are welcome, whether
they require a drink or just to take advantage of the shelter. Buses depart

Fans and Club working together! |

As recently announced, a fans' Focus Group has been formed to help move Doncaster Rovers forward, especially by expanding the fan base and interacting more effectively with the wider public who are not yet Rovers' fans. A detailed Three Year Action Plan was presented by representatives of the group to John Ryan at his home yesterday. Those present were Andy Liney, Tony Walton, Mark Lister, and Mike Follows (representing the Focus Group), and John, together with Dave Morris, and Dave Parker from Rovers. The various strategies of the Action Plan were agreed, and it was also agreed that volunteer fans would help with key tasks such as compiling a customer database, expanding the database, "growing" the Rovers' brand, "benchmarking" (looking at best practice in other clubs and enterprises), and "mystery consuming" at all the customer interfaces. A major factor was John's agreement to purchase a Customer Relations Management (CRM) platform, a sophisticated state-of-the-art computer system to handle and compile data, and interface in a variety of ways with customers, both existing and prospective, as well as operating loyalty card systems, etc. As John, who has invested £5 million in the footballing side of the club since he took over , said himself, "It is unusual for me to invest substantial sums in non-footballing activities, but a CRM system is a pre-requisite to move Doncaster Rovers forward, and interface with our customers and the wider market in a way that will enable us to build a Championship size season ticket holder and supporter base". The ambitious plans include the intention to increase season ticket holder numbers to 7,000, with an additional 1,000 premium seats (to be marketed separately), as well as an average attendance of 12,500, by the 2007-8 season. The CRM proposals will be explained in detail to all Rovers' staff at a presentation to be held in mid-January. December 24, 2005 |

Coin Trail Sadly,
there will be no collection at either Nottingham Forest or Rotherham as neither
club will grant permission. This is particularly disappointing given the large
Rovers' contingent that will be present at both matches, and the fact that
we had managed to get an extra volunteer to assist with the big crowd. December 24, 2005 Rovers Return open Boxing Day At the request of
fans, the Rovers Return will be open on Boxing Day from 11.00 am for the convenience
of fans awaiting their buses for the Nottingham Forest match. All fans of
all ages are welcome, whether they require a drink or just to take advantage
of the shelter. Buses depart at 12.30 pm. December 23, 2005 Coin Trail It seems
almost sacrilegious to think about anything else except the match. However,
I have to report on the collection, which matched the great performance on
the pitch with a magnificent £806.50. This was made up from £423.88
in the Viking Bar and £382.62 in the ground, and falls only 36p short
of the all-time record collection set at the Carlisle match on 8 May 2004. December 22, 2005 Hammer Villa on Calendar tonight!Hot on the heels of being put out on radio 5 yesterday, the lads singing "Hammer Villa" on the bus to Milton Keynes last week will close the item on the Rovers on Calendar tonight! December 21, 2005 |
Coin Trail The collection
at the Swansea game raised £500.50, made up from £351.86 in the
Viking Bar, and £148.64 in the ground. Our regular home match collector,
Mel, is carrying an injury, and it was good of him to persevere today despite
him finding it difficult to carry the bucket, so understandably he was unable
to reach as many fans as usual. December 18, 2005 "Hammer Villa" The opera
singer who will provide pre-match and half-time entertainment at tomorrow's
game against Swansea will be asked to lead us in singing "Hammer Villa",
the new version of "Amarillo" written by three Rovers' fans. December 16, 2005 |
Coin TrailIt was not possible to reach more than about half the fans attending the Boston game in the time available with only one collector, but the collection nevertheless raised £66.21, taking the total to £41,398.04. December 7, 2005 Arsenal ticket informationQuarter Final ticket arrangements Season ticket holders will be entitled to one ticket for themselves, plus a second ticket which they can buy only in conjunction with a Swansea ticket. When season ticket sales are over, general sales will require the purchase of both the Arsenal and Swansea tickets as a package. Half season tickets purchased in time will entitle the holder to the same deal as full season tickets. There will be NO price rises, normal Category "A" will apply. Sponsorships packages such as unallocated executive boxes, will, however, double. This price policy rewards loyalty for both regular fans and regular box holders, whose fixed annual price will include this match. The date of the tie and of ticket sales will be announced as soon as they are known. December 1, 2005 Coin trailOn a great night for Rovers, we also had a good collection even though it was the second home match in four days. We raised an amazing £435.18 in the Viking Supporters' Bar, and £175.22 in the ground, for a total of £610.40. This takes the running total to £41,331.83. November 30, 2005 |
See the Fifth Round Draw Live in the Rovers Return! The Rovers Return will be open on Saturday for the live coverage of the Carling Cup Fifth Round draw. Prior to the draw, we will also be showing the full Aston Villa match recording to relive those great moments and build up the tension as we go into the hat, with seven Premiership clubs, as the only representatives of the entire Football League. Sky TV are coming to film fans' reaction live as we see which big club we have got! Please do your best to attend instead of watching at home or in the pub, as we want the viewing millions to see a big turnout! Doors open at 11.00 am, and the match replay will start soon after. The timing of the draw remains uncertain as it will be delayed by George Best's funeral, but is expected around the 12.30 to 1.00 pm time, and is guaranteed to be completed by 1.30 pm. This may work well, as it could allow us to complete the showing of the Villa game before the draw coverage commences. So why not come on down, and live the moment as Rovers remarkable Carling Cup run takes us into the Quarter Final pot for the first time in 30 years! December 1, 2005 Coin trailOn a great night for Rovers, we also had a good collection even though it was the second home match in four days. Focus Group At the suggestion of several
fans, and with John Ryan's willing agreement, I am organising a Focus Group
to develop ideas for the potential benefit of Doncaster Rovers' administration
and marketing. The group will consider ideas generated internal to the group,
and also those sent in by other interested Rovers' fans who are unable to
be present in person, for example those living at distance from Doncaster. November 27, 2005 |
Coin trailA larger than average
crowd produced, not unexpectedly, a larger than average collection for the
Coin Trail at the Bristol City game. A total of £682.89 was raised,
comprising £289.74 in the Viking Bar and £393.15 in the ground. November 27, 2005 |
Coin Trail passes £40,000! The Viking Coin Trail,
whose sole aim is to raise funds to support the Rovers' Youth Team, has now
passed £40,000. The idea is to collect enough £1 coins to stretch,
end to end, from Belle Vue to the entrance of the new stadium by the time
it opens, a distance of some 2 km. November 26, 2005 |
Coin trailDespite the disappointment of
the evening, there was a small piece of good news at the Cambridge match as
the Coin Trail passed £40,000! November 21, 2005 |
Coin trailDespite the now notoriously low gate for the Bournemouth game, the Coin Trail collection still managed £382.80, made up from £169.17 in the Viking Bar, and £213.63 in the ground. Added to £50 donated in the bar as a direct contribution to the Coin Trail £50+ Club, and the total rose tantalisingly close to £40,000 at £39,974.85. Thanks to everyone, and a special thanks for the £50 donor. November 21, 2005 |
